Westport Commercial Galleries Next Stop on Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County Progressive Gallery Tour!
Norwalk, CT - Early on Saturday evening, February 4th, the Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County (CAFC) comes to Westport for the 5th stop on their 2017 Progressive Gallery Tour of Fairfield County. Join artists, arts patrons and gallery owners at the Wendy Nylen/Picture This Gallery and the Amy Simon Fine Art Gallery, as they open their doors for an early evening chance to enjoy a glass of wine, fine art, and conversation.

The evening is also the opening night for new exhibits at the galleries, both of which are members of CAFC. (Click here for coverage of CAFC's stop last month at three commercial galleries in Norwalk).
David Green, Director of Programs and Membership for the Alliance stated that "After the tremendous success and buzz created by our visit in January to three of our commercial gallery members in Norwalk, we look forward to an even greater crowd that will discover two quite different member galleries along Westport’s Post Road East."

The evening begins at 5:30 pm at Wendy Nylen/Picture This at 772 Post Road East. Wendy, a Harvard graduate with a degree in art history managed Picture This for 9 years (1990-999), returning as gallery owner in Dec. 2007 after working in digital printing at Image Works of Westport with Don Sigovich and Mark Bunger. Wendy is also an artist working in pastel, acrylic and oils.

Wendy is showing Flora, an exhibit of work by Ann Evans de Bernard, which consists of floral still lifes, demonstrating the artist's passion for texture and vibrant color. Artist, writer, and educator, Ann studied painting at Indiana University with Robert M. Barnes and from there went to the New York Studio School of Fine Arts, spending two years refining her painting skills under the direction of several abstract expressionist painters such a Philip Guston and George O’Neil.

At 6:30 pm the tour moves east to Amy Simon Fine Art, located at 1869 Post Road East. After working at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Guggenheim Museum and Marlborough Gallery, Amy Simon became a private dealer in New York and Connecticut and in 2005, opened her Westport gallery. The gallery specializes in work by mid-career and emerging artists, contemporary blue chip editions and Asian contemporary art.

Amy is pleased to present In Your Dreams! Geoffrey Detrani + Eric Jianju. Both artists relocated from Brooklyn to Connecticut. Geoffrey Detrani creates large scale works on paper, mounted on panel, that explore the relationship between the natural world and the built environment. Detrani's work is in numerous private and public art collections including The Museum of Modern Art (NY), San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and The New Britain Museum of American Art, among others. Eric Jiaju Lee’s work is a combination of Modernist abstraction and traditional Chinese painting, employing a technique that involves pouring and dripping paint onto raw canvas. With attention to the formal visual aspects of painting, the artist applies Chinese philosophical principles to inform the composition, especially with regards to the interplay of positive and negative space, a representation of the Yin-Yang (passive-active) duality.

The Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County's Annual Progressive Gallery Tour was launched in 2016 to bring artists, cultural nonprofits, and creative business members of the Alliance together to celebrate the richness and variety of the organization's commercial art gallery members across Fairfield County. The tour progresses monthly, visiting one town each month. The 2017 tour began in September at the C.Parker Gallery and Isabella Garucho Fine Art Gallery in Greenwich, and in November moved on to the Fernando Luis Alvarez Gallery in downtown Stamford. In December, CAFC was able to join the New Canaan Holiday Stroll with three commercial gallery members: Handwright Gallery & Framing, Heather Gaudio Fine Art, and the Sorelle Gallery. And in January, CAFC enjoyed exhbits at the Artists' Market, Love Art Gallery and Galaria Isadora in Norwalk.
