Norwalk, CT - The Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County (CAFC), is pleased to announce that Wes Haynes, Project Director for Making Places at the Connecticut Trust for Historic Preservation, will be the keynote speaker at CAFC's upcoming one-day "Space Summit," Creative Spaces for the Creative Economy, being held on November 12th, from 9:30-4:30pm at the Bijou Theatre, in Bridgeport. 

The summit is being held in response to calls for action by the cultural community of Fairfield County to bring unused space - or underused space - from throughout the region into more productive use for artists, cultural nonprofits and others in the community. 
The event is being held in partnership with the Kuchma Cooperation and Spinnaker Real Estate. There will be a post-summit reception at 5pm, at the renovated Harral Security Wheeler (HSW) Building, 1115 Main Street, Bridgeport, courtesy Bridgeport Historic Ventures, a Joint Venture of Spinnaker Real Estate Partners and Trefz Corp.

Wes Hayes is a Stamford native with over thirty-five years in historic preservation. He served as a historic preservation specialist with 
the Ehrenkrantz Group, Architects and Planners, where he co-authored the master plan for the restoration of the NYS Capitol in Albany and prepared the historic resource inventory for the restoration of Central Park. He has held positions with the New York Landmarks Conservancy, Preservation League of New York State, New Jersey Historic Trust and formerly taught historic preservation at the Brooklyn [Public] High School for the Arts, Parsons School of Design, and RPI in Troy, NY. He is now directing Making Places, the initiative of the Connecticut Trust for Historic Preservation to inventory and stimulate preservation reinvestment in historic industrial properties. Mr. Haynes serves as president of the Fish Church Conservancy, a project focused on the conservation of Stamford’s First Presbyterian Church, and he is on the non-profit board of the Sagamore Institute in Raquette Lake, New York, which operates an Adirondack Great Camp open to the public.

Speakers throughout the day will share existing examples of positive, creative use of spaces, as well as address remaining challenges and possible solutions to the many unresolved space issues and needs within the arts and culture community. The guiding principles of the day will be those of creativity, affordability, and sustainability in the cultural community's search for spaces in which to live, work, show, create and perform creative work. The range of speakers will include artists, developers, gallery directors, landlords, business owners, economic development officers, and representatives from government, foundations, nonprofits and corporations.
