Halfway Point Reached in Year Long Study to Make Evident the Positive Impact the Arts Continue to Have on Local and Regional Economies

Norwalk, CT (July 14, 2016): The end of June marked the halfway point for the data gathering process for the Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County’s (CAFC) involvement in the Americans for the Arts latest Arts and Economic Prosperity Study, which will qualitatively prove that arts and culture increasingly provide significant jobs and revenue across all communities.

For the study, CAFC is working with the Connecticut Office of the Arts and the Western Connecticut Cultural Alliance to facilitate the statewide participation of cultural organizations by sharing costs, time and personnel. Spinnaker Real Estate Partners, located in Norwalk, stepped up with funding to support CAFC’s participation as it is recognized by the firm’s President, Kim Morque, that “…the arts and cultural offerings in Fairfield County greatly contribute to strengthening local communities through meaningful economic development.”

The Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County, centrally located in Mathews Park in Norwalk, has reached out to its over 250 nonprofit organization members to assist in the collection of valuable information on arts and culture spending. Cultural organizations assisting with data collection for the Arts & Economic Prosperity Study V, during the first half of the year, included: the Fairfield Theatre Company, JIB Productions/Play with Your Food, Klein Memorial Auditorium, the New Canaan Library, Norwalk Symphony Orchestra, Pequot Library, Quick Center for the Arts, Theatre Artists Workshop, Westport Arts Center and the Westport Country Playhouse. Americans for the Arts is working in over 150 communities nationwide and the final report, Arts and Economic Prosperity V, will be available in June of 2017. 

The previous study, Arts and Economic Prosperity IV, was published in 2013. The results showed that arts and culture are indeed powerful economic drivers - generating $135 billion dollars in economic activity national wide. In Fairfield County, the arts and culture sector supports 4,000 jobs annually and generated an additional $10.5 million in local and state revenue.
